St. Marys JSOC

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!

Established in December 2015 alongside the establishment of St. Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, St. Mary’s Sunday School Hampshire began with 30 students who met monthly after the Holy Qurbana for their classes. Today, the Sunday School has grown to be an institution of 60+ students and 15 teachers who hold weekly online sessions alongside the assemblies after the Holy Qurbana, which takes place every 1st and 3rd Saturday.

The Sunday School is under the patronage of St. Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Parish in Hampshire and is supervised by the Presidency of the Vicar and the managing committee. It is affiliated with MJSSA, UK and MJSSA worldwide.

The Sunday School was led under the passionate leadership of Mr Jacob Ethappiry Madathikudiyil during its formation years of 2015 to 2019, after which Mr Baby Joseph took on the role of Headmaster from 2019 to 2023. The Sunday School also took place diligently during the pandemic through online mediums. The church general body has elected Mr Jolly Mon Peter as the new Headmaster of our Sunday School for the years 2023-2025.

The Sunday School actively participates its children in various activities that kindle their interest in God’s words. The Sunday School has participated in the national kalolsavams held by MJSSA, UK, where our students won several prizes in 2021. Our Sunday School also won first prize in the regionals and overall third runner-up at the nationals in 2022.
The Sunday School has also participated in and reached the semi-finals of the Late Rev. Fr. Dr Biji Markose Chirathilattu Memorial Inter-Sunday School Bible Quiz Competition 2022.
